this new strand release on lowriders, maleza is a very personal take on bass music, juke, west coast hiphop, jamaican music, prepared pianos, old detuned synths, odd time signatures and huge live reverbs. the idea of the record came when i was going through a lot of personal struggle and i was not able to get out of it. in the same period i decided to run in the woods near my home early in the morning. i ran every day, and ran and ran. eventually i got out of my problems. so i left the maleza away. this is a very personal record, each sound has a deep meaning about me and my loved ones. maleza means bad herbs, weeds, undergrowth in spanish.

die verboten are a space rock band formed by david and stephen dewaele of soulwax, fergus fergadelic purcell and henry riton. this is the first album from die verboten, written and recorded in 2007, rediscovered and mixed in 2015. this lp consists of five tracks, dafalganger, white island, e40, nacht winkel and aquarius. it is the sound of classic german kosmiche, live drums, synths, percussion and a loose funk you only find in these kind of stretched fluid grooves. the album was produced by die verboten and recorded and mixed at deewee. artwork is by ill studio / fergadelic. die verbotens debut ep live in eivissa was released in 2009 via londons vinyl factory (now selling for over £100 on discogs) and was recorded poolside in ibiza.

all this work together creates a very hypnotic but strong vibe getting completed by some subtle deep synths stabs and some wicked fxs on the base elements, which rounds up the whole vibe of the remix perfectly. two greatly executed remixes that haves a subtle groove swift but also keep the soul from the original track intact, as any great remixes should.

444/5/6 is the first four-track ep signed by unc on the very recently born techno label aiia recordings based in lyon, france. unc (also known as dubit) means « uncompromise » (unc0mpr0m153), even by laws and habits of techno, for a free production and a free interpretation of this music composed by this berlin based techno producer. 444/5/6 is blending different ways of sound creation, as if every element in life might be used in unc s music. some industrial samples are combined with dark techno basslines and ambient synths, attesting of the experimental side of the artist. in his work, unc is giving a true estheticism to sounds normally cold and impersonal in the context of daily life. 444 blends a kind of dark and deep samples which reverberate on an almost acid but hypnotic rythm.sloven s re-interpretation of 444 puts in this track, keeping the original samples, some digital sounds on a evolving rythm... like an heart, beating and racing along this track. 445 is the most electronic, rythmically speaking, track of this ep. still gathering techno, with adding industrial samples, which makes 445 the kind of experimental track by unc. 446 is the track which most refers to techno as it s known and produced nowadays. when soft and really high synths meets agressive and speedy rythms.

2015 has been an outstanding year for django django with the release of their inventive second album ‘born under saturn’ which was met with rave reviews across the board. continuing that success, the band are ready to unleash four fresh mixes of the latest single ‘pause repeat’ which, as we’ve come to expect from django’s remix packages, are about as on point as it gets. the package starts out with an african beat paired with parisian synths on debruit’s indie dance mix. night slugs’ bok bok offers stop-start disco-infused euphoria. italy’s clap! clap! brings in off-kilter rhythms and infectious bubbles of analogue bass. finally one half of legendary glaswegian duo optimo, jd twitch, heads into deep, dubby and progressive techno territory.

saft10 is a boogie infused record by grodno based producer four walls. seemingly effortless the belorussian newcomer to the saft family knits up an ecstatic wash of synths, pads and modish drum patterns.

moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!

various artists pt.2 follows on from 2014’s storming rsn002 printed insert included great dj support – see below… “various artists pt.2” follows on from 2014’s rsn002, lead by a storming track from bleaching agent and introduced the like of divided and manse. part 2 follows brings the same energy with four sterling tracks. ‘serial experiment 1’ by unklone kicks things off in full force with a pulsating lead that ebbs and flows, glittered with enchanting cries. ‘silence coloured in’ delves into a deeper side of myler s sound, melding mystical synths over a clattering beat. ‘pass’ sees pris return with a driving track molded for the dance floor that builds and releases tension throughout. ‘untitled 1’ shows chicago flotation device at their very best, taking the listener on a journey through an analogue wasteland.

mastermaster kicks things off and drives a shifting sequence through a lo-fi break, plodding piano notes and a clipped, lively vocal hook before -bruce wayne- melds spring reverb and squelching flangers to treat guitar riffs and more 80s drums. eerily wobbling synths shimmer over head before -hornet green- drives a sprung kick under tense, soundtrack synth tones and a sandy shuffle as a cinematic pursuit is rendered. -valium- then sets sultry vocals floating through more hazy drum breaks and softly shifting chords. rhythmic variation and more vintage effects wade in and round off off a refreshing package of rich and intriguing gems and another fine addition to the charlois series.

after making a great impression with its first ep, giant records serves up a second hot helping of house music from boss man grant dell, complete with fresh remixes by scottish techno stalwarts silicone soul. dell, also known as chicago transit authority, has been doing his do for 25 years now. as a dj he is at home in clubs in ibiza and barcelona as well as around the rest of europe, and is someone who always prefers to push his own brand of widely infused and influenced music than his own profile. once again here he comes up trumps with the emotive, glowing house cut ‘in your mind’. with a neat bassline and mid tempo house drums, subtle but effective synth smears add warmth and colour to the groove, whilst soul fuelled vocals add a real sense of personality. this is sure to get people grooving at any hour and comes with grant’s own space echo remix. as the title suggests it’s a more dubby and reverb rich affair with cosmic signifiers and sci-fi vibes pervading from start to finish. silicone soul need little introduction having been at the heart of real deep house and techno for decades on the soma label. their first remix is a darkroom dub - named after their own label - and is a seductively slo-mo and lazily unfolding house cut with languid synths that really suck you in. their lush hypnohouse mix is then a twinkling, late night bit of melodically rich deep house with starry skies twinkling above sombre chords. this is a patiently served but hugely alluring ep that is stuffed with plenty of tender feeling. one again then, both grant and giant have come up with the goods.

keeping the concept of a tight knit family of artists, up next on sol asylum is the follow up ep for the dilated pupils titled introducing remi. this collective of likeminded artists from the netherlands return to the label with a solid four-track ep that shows their range and diversity as producers. moving full speed ahead we start off with “remi at 21.16” a track that instantly hypnotizes you on the dance floor with its echoing harmonic synths and a complex metallic snare pattern. the track is a slow burner that explodes when the dirty analog kick, swinging bassline, and filtered percussion melt into an atomic fusion. next we take it to the next level with “do” its underwater bubbling percussion, bleeping stabs and eerie synth take us to the far off corners of space with just enough acid to keep our heads down and grooving to the strobe light in a dark room. as we move into fall with “october times” a tightly woven groove and galloping kicks push us into more experimental territory with soaring vintage synths that create tension and finesse at the same time. finally we finishing things off with the esoteric vibes of “suque” this deep and dirty track channels the positive force from another realm, which is the perfect match for the inspiriting concept of sol asylum.

mysterious hardware tinkerer stephan stl laubner is back with a 3 track + locked groove ep on the london based imprint mutual friend recordings entitled listen up! mind puzzlin is exactly that with a luscious lead line that will twist your head accomponied by stls signature rough and overdriven percussion. smile function has a more ominous tone with repeated guitar plucks that plant themselves into your consciousness. stl builds the groove expertly whilst retaining an other-worldly feel to the track. wrong is a real groover with a growling bassline accomponied by weird and wonderful interwoven patterns coaxed out of stls synths. the locked groove, titled listen up! loop is a nice bonus for the more adventurous dj out there.

phooka releases two tracks on love blast records: an intense techno ep focused on dark ambient drones and bassline. -armspin- was made for the dancefloor, mental groove and an insistent rhythm. -floating drops- is a more experimental vision of what techno could be, with big kick, breakbeat and deep aggressive synths. -throwing technques- is a glimpse into the techno genre, coming as limited 12s-­sided, first 100 silkscreened on one side.

up first is gigolo, a spare and weird house cut with sine waves and random claps, hunched drums and trippy synth lines. it s a unique track made in a unique way and will lead to plenty of freaky dance floor moments, for sure. co. art is a whacked out techno cut with slap-funk claps, blistering and blistered synth lines and a rugged bit of bass underlining it all. the track is cavernous and metallic, empty and distant as if it somehow survived a nuclear blast. on the flip, alzheimer is a slow and gurgling, swampy techno number with broken drums and crawling synths that sound like their batteries have run down. icy, watery melodies eventually rain down, but the track remains resolutely eerie. last of all, fabric is another decaying track with subtle, heavily filtered synths and drums all making for a minimal groove that is barely there.

the mysterious dream lovers arrive on uber with the super mellow brasil. a tropical reggae disco tinged balearic shuffler, all loose percussion and soft guitars. reminiscent of studio in their heyday. abel from the redlight records crew dims the lights and strips the og back. layback and feel the sunshine on your eyelids. the second remix comes from maciek sienkiewicz of very polish cut-outs. a quirky almost off beat stripped back version bringing out the guitars and adding extra synths pads. uber warming us up with some balearic heat.
